If any word could best describe Arya, "difficult" would probably be it to a T.
From the moment she entered this would, Arya was already a difficult child, taking hours before she came into the world and always seemed to be an energetic, fussy type when she was a child. Whether with her mother or nursemaids, it took much time and energy before young Arya would calm down or find something that could keep her entertained for long, something of which she wouldn't grow out of until she was around five or six of which raising her became a bit easier. But, only slightly. When she took her first steps, Arya's energy turned into her getting into anything and everything, whether it was her father or older brother's weapons to getting into any small tight space she could fit in, she quickly became a handful. It was this boundless energy that her father decided to start getting her into her studies early, and even allowed her to train with her brother Robb and some of the other men in combat with fake swords much to Catelyn's chagrin.
What became clear as the youngest daughter of Eddard and Catelyn Stark grew was the stark contrast between their eldest daughter, Sansa, and Arya, with Sansa following a more traditional role of a lady while Arya seemed to take on a more brutish, manly like role. In attire and attitude, Arya was always more direct, stubborn, and never afraid to get her hands dirty, dressing more in trousers, shirts, leather, and chainmail than dresses of which she would wear from time to time at the insistence of her mother. For much of her upbringing, Arya followed closely with her lessons but also took to being a warrior more naturally than anything such as etiquette or sewing or painting, even being taught by older brother, a couple trainers (namely Syrio Forel), and her cousins from House Targaryen of whom she is close to especially Aerion/Jon. Though vocal in her words, Arya quickly learned to become stealthy and sneaky with her combat, earning her the nickname "Night Wolf" at a young age.
Such antics however made Arya extremely difficult to make a proper political marriage match, many finding her unruly, warrior-like antics off-putting compared to say someone like Sansa who was more delicate, quiet, and submissive. Not that Arya was particularly upset about this, making it clear to her family she wasn't exactly looking to be married off to just anyone, if at all. However, her mind seemed to change upon the arrival of an unexpected visitor, Gendry Baratheon, the legitimized bastard of Robert Baratheon who came seeking answers about his father. While the young man was staying in Winterfell, Arya was wary and stand offish, not initially trusting him due to his House and knowing so little about him especially when they met in the Godswoods. Though Gendry was smitten from the beginning, it took some time for Arya's stubbornness to fade a bit as the two struck up a few conversations and even exchanged talks of combat, the young woman pleasantly surprised to find Gendry not so judgmental of her desires to be a warrior.
For a while, Arya only confided in her younger brother Bran about her affections towards Gendry, and seemed content to take whatever training or traveling she could get, something of which she would often do with her father and older brother since she was young...until Ned was killed by the Boltons. Arya's attitude seemed to make a complete turnaround for the most part, becoming angry and determined, taking her skills as a warrior far more seriously and even took to training Nymeria more in aiding her in battle and has sought to be part of Robb's small council as she desires to protect Winterfell by any means she can.
